Worship
What does it mean to worship God and why would we need to do it? This amazing author C.S. Lewis asks us to imagine being on a mountaintop and seeing a glorious sunset, but you are alone. There is a hollow ring of sadness to not have someone to share it with. Somehow something critical is missing by not sharing this joy. The joy is incomplete when it’s held within.
"It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed. It is frustrating to have discovered a new author and not to be able to tell anyone how good he is; to come suddenly at the turn of the road, upon some mountain valley of unexpected grandeur and then to have to keep silent because the people with you care for it no more than for a tin can in the ditch; to hear a good joke and find no one to share it with..." Lewis, Reflections on the Psalms, 97.
When you experience God through prayer, service, or reading of God’s word there occurs this warming of the heart and soul. Worship is sharing with others and God this joy you have found in knowing him.
Types of worship:
Go to church! - This can be tough for some people especially if the music played at church isn’t their particular jam. But if you get over yourself and “decide” to join in with others something amazing might happen. You might like it: -)
Find your style of music that praises God. You think of a style of music, and there is a christian version of it that turns the focus from the mundane to spiritual things. There is every genre, from the heaviest of thrash metal, rap, country, to electronica. It’s all out there.
Maybe music isn’t your thing then find an avenue of expression that is. God is after connecting with you heart not a particular style of method.
Try this.
On your way to or from school, assume a worshipful attitude. Give thanks for the things that are going right. For who God is. For how much he loves you.
Start a gratitude list. A couple of friends of mine text each other three things that they are grateful for every night to help them keep their mental attitude worshipful.
Build worship into your prayer time. We often pray to God for the things that we need, but we can also spend time thanking God for who he is and thinking about the qualities that make God amazing.
Watch nature videos or look at beautiful landscape photography online. Often these can bring about an awe for God's ability to create amazing things. Planet Earth is on Netflix right now!
