Confession

James 5:16The Message (MSG)
16 Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed.
Do you have a safe person or group of people in your life that REALLY know what is going on with you? The good and the bad?  We all need people who you can trust to see you without your perfectly constructed mask.  I think you have to have someone in your life that you are able to confess to. You need people in your inner circle to admit you don’t have everything figured out and even own up to when you have blatantly screwed up.

Rules for a safe person to confess to:
Trustworthy - You need someone that won’t go blabbing your hearts deepest secrets to ANYONE else.
Reciprocal - I think confession needs to go both ways. You both have to able to admit you have screwed up.
Godly - You need someone that understands grace, forgiveness and God’s mercy and is able to demonstrate them to you when you screw up.
Available - You have to be able to reach this person if your in a tough spot.

I think that anything you keep in secret; a bad habit, guilt or shame has unbridled power over you. It poisons the well of your heart and discolors the way you see life. However, the moment you tell that safe person in your life, it loses its hold over you in an instant. Confession is POWERFUL. Ask God to help you find the safe person in your life to help clean the slate of your heart.
